Kathmandu, Dec 6: A tri-party meeting among the ruling parties, main opposition and the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) held Saturday late evening in an attempt to seek a solution to the Madhes unrest ended inconclusively.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's official residence Baluwatar. In the meeting, the protesting UDMF, an alliance of the Madhes-centric parties expressing dissent with the new constitution, argued that the government failed to come up with a concrete proposal regarding the Madhes demands.

However, talking to media after the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Bhim Rawal said the meeting with the UDMF was heading positively.

Compensation of Rs one million to the families of those killed during the Madhes agitation and free treatment to the injured were among the demands put forth by the UDMF. In response, the government said that it has already taken a decision regarding the demand for compensation and allocated the compensation amount to the victims' families and arranged for free treatment of the injured.

If any family of the deceased has been deprived of the compensation, a joint team of the government and UDMF will be formed to ensure compensation to the deprived family, the government talks team told the UDMF, according to DPM Rawal.

The UDMF leaders were urged to withdraw the programmes of protest as the prolonged obstructions in the supplies along the border transits have hit the people hard and affected the post earthquake-reconstruction efforts.

Following the meeting, President of Federal Socialist Forum Upendra Yadav accused the government of still not establishing an atmosphere conducive for dailogue. " The 11-point demands of the UDMF was not addressed by the second party in the talks today, and it has been the same even after ten rounds of talks.", he said.

The Government has not paid serious attention towards maintaining law and order in the country by resolving the exiting problem. The talks today did not even enter regular agenda, he said.

UCPN (Maoist)Vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha tabled a joint proposal developed by the ruling and the major opposition party. The talks would resume after both sides work to build an atmosphere for the same.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN (UML) leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal, Deputy Prime Minister and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal Chair Kamal Thapa, UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chair Narayankaji Shrestha, Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chair Mahantha Thakur and Forum Chair Upendra Yadav were among those present in the meeting.
