SIMIKOT, Oct 11: Many travelers wishing to leave for the Kathmandu Valley and other districts on the occasion of the main Hindu festivals-- Dashain and Tihar-- are facing difficulties in getting airline tickets. As the only means of transportation connecting Humla and other adjoining districts to other districts in the country is by air, it is difficult for passengers to get tickets during the festive seasons.

Many people, who work in Humla, have expressed their inability to get a ticket during this time. People throng to the Simikot Airport since early morning to leave for Nepalgunj and Surkhet which is one of the problems in getting a ticket out of Humla.

Private airline companies like Sita, Tara, and Summit have reduced the frequency of their flights to Nepalgunj and Surkhet during the festive season, which is also a major reason behind the problem. Earlier, private airlines used to make 15 flights daily from Nepalgunj and Surkhet. The number of flights has decreased to just one or two per day. This has led to a shortage of airline tickets.

According to Simikot Airport, as many people leave the district during the festival season, the crowd of people arriving at the airport for tickets is also the reason behind the hardships faced by people to get a ticket.
