Though National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) has already constructed such a centre in Kathmandu, unfortunately, it has not come into operation yet. [break]
The soon-to-be-built trauma center in Dhulikhel will be easily accessible for the people from various mid-hill districts around Kavre, according to Dr Rajendra Koju, administrative director of Dhulikhel Hospital.
“Every year, many people get injured in accidents along Araniko and BP highways and on other roads. Some of them die in want of immediate treatment,” Dr Koju says.
“Once a trauma center comes into operation in Dhulikhel, the lives of many accident victims can be saved.” Accident victims are brought to Dhulikhel Hospital from Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Dolakha and Bhaktapur. In 2010 alone, a staggering 544 accident casualties were admitted at the emergency ward of Dhulikhel Hospital.
According to Dr Koju, the hospital has already initiated the process to procure land for building the center.
The local administration has written to the government to provide more than 16 ropanis of the land, originally bought by Ministry of Industry for developing Information Technology (IT) Park, to the hospital for building the center. The recommended piece of land is in Dhulikhel-5.
