Transportation workers, entrepreneurs withdraw protest after agreement with government

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: The protest announced by transportation workers and enterprenuers has been withdrawn. The protest was withdrawn after the meeting with the leaders of the transport workers and entrepreneurs at Singh Durbar on Tuesday morning.

After the talks held on Tuesday morning, the agitating public transport entrepreneurs and workers agreed to immediately withdraw the protest and reach an agreement through the working group.

Earlier, the agitating transport workers had vandalized the Lotse Mall at Naya Buspark in Kathmandu.  The transport workers on Monday evening took to the streets, leading to clashes, vandalism and arson in the area by protesting the traffic police’s decision to hike the fine for traffic rules violation. They also vandalized the Lotse Mall run near the Naya Buspark on Monday.

Bijay Gautam, Personal Secretary of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayan Kaji Shrestha, said that there was an agreement to withdraw the program of public transport shutdown after the talks held with the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport today at Singha Durbar.

They had announced to shut down all public transport in Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday. Ordinary people in Kathmandu Valley had undergo insurmountable hardship as a result of the shutdown since earmy morning on Tuesday.
