Transport entrepreneurs in wait and see mood

KATHMANDU, Nov 10: Transport entrepreneurs have said they would decide whether or not to operate public buses on Monday based on the security arrangements made by the government to control banda enforcers.



They said this during a meeting with the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Chhabilal Panta on Sunday. [break]



The CPN-Maoist has called a general shutdown on Monday as part of its protest of the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election.



In the meeting, Minister Panta requested transport entrepreneurs to operate their buses on Monday saying that the government has made adequate security arrangement.

After the meeting, Nirratna Newa, coordinator of Bagmati zone for Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs Associations, said they would take decision on operating buses after studying the government´s security arrangement.



The government has promised to compensate 90 percent of the damage incurred to any public vehicles during the shutdown. It has also announced to provide free treatment for injured staff of the public vehicles.



Transport entrepreneurs have said that would operate buses only if passengers feel safe to travel.



The government has announced to provide police escort for long-route buses, according to Rajendra Nepal, an under secretary at the MoPIT. Nepal also claimed that transport entrepreneurs have expressed commitments to operate public vehicles on Monday.
