Training for women entrepreneurs to expand business through e-commerce and digital marketing kicks off

KATHMANDU, April 4: United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in partnership with South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF) organized a training of women entrepreneurs on expanding business through e-commerce and digital marketing" in Kathmandu.

The three-day training program entitled “Training of Women Entrepreneurs on Expanding Business through E-commerce and Digital Marketing" beginning Monday will begin with two plenary sessions on “E-tourism marketing,” and “Handicraft and Agriculture: Leveraging Digital Technology Opportunities”.

Minister of Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhakri graced the event as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony and launched a manual titled “Beginner’s manual on Digital Marketing and E-commerce”. On the occasion Minister Jhakri stressed on empowering women socially and economically and expressed confidence that this training program would help women in digitalization of their business.

President of South Asian Women Development Forum Pramila Acharya Rijal informed that since the inception of UNESCAP and SAWDF partnership project on “E-commerce Capacity Building for Women-led SMEs in South Asia”, more than 1500 women entrepreneurs been trained in South Asia, with more than 200 Nepalese women entrepreneurs benefitting from this project. This training program has helped in enhancing the capacity of women entrepreneurs, she said.

Deputy Head, ESCAP South and South-West Asia Office, New Delhi, Dr. Rajan Sudesh Ratna mentioned that the “Training of Women Entrepreneurs on Expanding Business through E-commerce and Digital Marketing" has been instrumental in bridging the digital divide and will help in a stronger participation of women entrepreneurs in the digitization business in South Asia.
