CHITWAN, Sept 27: Vehicular movement along the Narayanghat-Mugling road section will be halted tonight from 7 pm to 5 am due to the high risk of landslides caused by continuous and heavy rainfall.

Deliberating safety measures for the incessant rain since Friday morning and the possibility of continued rainfall at night, a meeting of the District Security Committee, Chitwan, headed by Chief District Officer (CDO), Indradev Yadav, has decided not to allow any vehicles to operate during nighttime in order to prevent human and physical damage.

“While vehicular movement along the road section will be halted from 7 pm to 5 am, essential vehicles will still be allowed to operate,” CDO Yadav informed Republica.

Although the road section was not significantly blocked throughout the day on Friday, there is still a potential risk of rain-induced landslides. On the night of July 12, a landslide in Simaltal on this road section swept away two buses, resulting in the deaths of 62 people.
