“We have been demanding that Mandal be declared a martyr in addition to providing due compensation to his family and security to other medical entrepreneurs,” said Amod Prasad Shriwastava, a medical entrepreneur. “The administration should make a written commitment.”
Medical entrepreneurs who had gone to the District Administration Office, Morang on Wednesday saw red when the police asked them to shut their shops by seven. The entrepreneurs had also chanted slogans against police on Wednesday noon. “It is unethical to ask us to shut our stores at seven,” said Shriwastava.
The entrepreneurs´ meeting on Thursday decided to shut down medical stores for an hour every day. They´ve also decided to shut all the medical stores in Koshi zone on November 21.
“We´ve decided to continue our protests as the administration has not been able to ensure security to us,” Meg Raj Parajuli, another medical store owner who attended the meeting said.
After Mandal´s business partner, Pramod Mandal and another six people were held, police believe that they will soon be able to track down the culprits behind Suresh´s murder.
Chief district officer Suresh Adhikari said, “Security situation in the district has been weak. However, we are discussing the issue of providing security to medical entrepreneurs.”
