TPPL starts manufacturing drugs used in treatment of cancer in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Tizig Pharma Pvt Ltd (TPPL), a foreign investment-based Nepali drug manufacturer, has launched domestically produced anti-cancer drugs for the first time in the Nepali market.


According to the TPPL, it is the first in its type of life-saving drugs manufactured by domestic companies. Shailesh Vaidya, executive director of the company, said they have received approval to sell three molecules related to the treatment of the fatal disease from their production unit based in Nala of Kavrepalanchok district.

So far, the company has obtained approval for production of 27 molecules in total from the Department of Drug Administration to manufacture anti-cancer drugs. TPPL has been established by Indian investors with an investment of Rs 320 million. The company has signed an agreement with SP Accure Labs of Hyderabad, India, for the technology transfer.


As of now, there is no production of medicines for serious diseases of the heart, kidney and other organs inside the country.  The locally produced anti-cancer drug is claimed to be available at a lower cost compared to the imported drugs.
