Tourists’ inflow to Nepal drops by 18.3 percent in September

The inflow of tourists last month declined by 18.3 percent due to the adverse effect of Gen Z movement followed by the vandalism and arson that took place on September 8-9.

KATHMANDU, October 7: The inflow of tourists last month declined by 18.3 percent due to the adverse effect of Gen Z movement followed by the vandalism and arson that took place on September 8-9.



The records with Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) show that the country welcomed 78,711 visitors travelled via air route in September. A total of 96,302 tourists visited Nepal in the review month last year.

The autumn that starts from September through November is one of the main tourist seasons in Nepal. As the weather is mild and stable during the period, the season is popular for the visitors for the mountain view, sightseeing and cultural observations.  


However, the unrest provoked by the Gen Z movement affected the tourists’ inflow in the period this year. According to tourism entrepreneurs, many tourists who were supposed to visit the country cancelled their booking after the devastating effect of the movement.


Out of the total visitors, 15,556 (19.8 percent) were from India. Likewise, 9,679 were from the USA, 6,824 were from Australia, 5,237 were from China and 4,981 were from the UK.


Regionwise, 24,258 tourists from the SAARC nations visited Nepal in the review month. The figure was 12,523 from Asian countries, 16,597 from European countries, 11,523 from the North American countries and 7,314 came from the ASEAN countries.
