The action follows BSM´s ongoing inspection wherein it found iron rods of these companies were weighing less than the weight the companies were claiming them to be.[break]
BSM regional office found discrepancy was from 0.5 kg to 1.5 kg. "When we visited and checked the weight of the rods at four depots we found the weight of the rods of the three companies was less than what they were supposed to be," said Sashibhusan Yadav, chief of BSM regional office at Biratnagar.
BSM regional office immediately handed over letters to the companies´ agents asking them to stop selling rods of those companies. BSM office will file a case against the three companies charging them with cheating the consumers under Standard Measurement and Weight Act 1968.
Yadav informed the company will not be allowed to sell the rods unless the case is solved.
"During inspection it was observed that Pashupati TMT rods of Pashupati Iron were selling bundle rods which were less in quantity by 200 gm to 0.5 kg, Jagadamba rods´ weight was less by up to 0.5 kg and Kamala Iron rods´ weight was less by up to 1.5 kg," informed Yadav.
The inspection team found that Jagadamba´s depot was using weighing machine without taking permission from BSM and the machine was also not functioning well.
The price of rods was Rs 65 per kg about one-and-a-half months ago has gone up to Rs 80 per kg at present.
BSM office has also requested the customers to measure the weight before buying iron rods as the companies have been found to be cheating the customers.
Meanwhile, BSM office has directed shops selling iron rods to keep a weighing machine compulsorily in the shop. BSM office has taken action against around 100 dealers before and after Dashain during inspection.
