HoR meeting today to discuss MCC compact agreement

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has called a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee before the HoR meeting. On Wednesday, the Nepali Congress instructed all its parliamentarians to attend today's parliamentary meeting.

In today’s meeting of the HoR, there will be a general discussion among the lawmakers on the MCC agreement which was tabled in the house last Sunday. Though Finance Minister Sharma was supposed to table the project in the previous meeting, it was presented by Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki because of Sharma’s health condition.

Efforts are being made by the ruling coalition to reach a consensus on the MCC grant deal. Despite the government's strategy of passing the MCC, the ruling coalition partners CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have taken the stance of not supporting the ratification of the MCC agreement.

The Democratic Socialist Party (LSP) has formally decided to vote in favor of the agreement, while another ruling party, the Janata Samajbadi Party, will hold a meeting of its executive committee tomorrow to take a formal stand on the MCC.

Meanwhile, the ruling Unified Socialist Party has also decided to vote against the MCC.
