Timilsena set to be elected NA chair

KATHMANDU, Mar 13: Ganesh Prasad Timilsena, the ruling UML's candidate for National Assembly (NA) chairman, looks set to be elected unopposed as he is the sole candidate for the post.

KATHMANDU, Mar 13: Ganesh Prasad Timilsena, the ruling UML's candidate for National Assembly (NA) chairman, looks set to be elected unopposed as he is the sole candidate for the post. 


"He has technically been eleceted the chairman. Only parliamentary rituals remains," said Bharat Gautam, spokesperson of the parliament's secretariat.

Khimlal Bhattarai of UML had proposed Timilsena's candidacy, while national assembly member Suman Pyakuurel and Dila Nath Shamra had seconded the proposal. 


"Under normal circumstances, he would have already been declared winner. But in parliamentary practice we cannot announce him winner until a formal vote takes place," said Gautam. 


Timilsena is backed by both the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Center).
