Tilganga Institute conducting Orbital Fracture Repair Workshop

KATHMANDU, Jan 18: The Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology (TIO) is conducting an Orbital Fracture Repair Workshop on Thursday.


Around 90 medical professionals including Oculoplastic surgeons, Ophthalmologists and Maxillofacial surgeons are expected to attend the live demonstration, gaining invaluable insights into the intricacies of orbital fracture repair.


The surgery of three patients with orbital fracture would be conducted on Thursday, the first day of the workshop.

At a news conference organized here on Wednesday, Head of Department of Oculoplasty, Orbit and Ocular Oncology, TIO, Dr Purnima Rajkarnkar Sthapit, said renowned Oculofacial Surgeon Dr Gangadhara Sundar is conducting Pioneering orbital Fracture Repair Workshop at TIO along with her, Dr Alok and Dr Rohit Saiju.


Dr Gangadhara Sundar, head and Senior Consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology, National University Health System, Singapore, is set to lead a groundbreaking two-day event at TIO.


The TIO would broadcast live the surgical workshop to be conducted from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Thursday. Dr Purnima said the surgical workshop would help add a new dimension in fracture repair in Nepal.


Following the surgical workshop, a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on challenging cases in orbital trauma would be held on the same day where surgeons are going to present the difficult case scenarios for discussion regarding the best possible management. "We will be conducting another CME on Challenging Cases in Thyroid Eye Disease, which is another emerging eye disease due to the increased number of people with thyroid problems." Dr Purnima said


Every year around 500 patients visit TIO for treatment of trauma to the eye. Among them, some are managed conservatively while more than 50 per cent need surgery.
