KATHMANDU, March 26: Two newly-constructed buildings -- a meternity ward and a 26-bed unit -- of Kailali-based Tikapur hospital were inaugurated on Sunday.
Country Director of KOICA Nepal Office Dr Hyungkyoo Kim and Regional Health Director of Ministry of Health Dr Sushil Nath Pyakuryal jointly inaugurated the buildings constructed with a financial assistance of US$ 5.5 million from the government of the Republic of Korea.
Both the governments had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in December 2011 for the cooperation.
"Now, the Tikapur hospital has been upgraded to 51-bed," read a KOICA statement.
According to the statement, KOICA has also set up six health posts in the district and donated medical equipment, besides organizing capacity building programs for medical practiotioners.
KOICA also handed over US$ 200,000 worth of medical equipment to four Primacy Health Care Centers (PHCCs) in Tikapur area last Tuesday.
