Tibet quake: No damage reported in Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, and Panchthar districts

Although the strong earthquake shook the ground for a few moments, the situation in Koshi districts is normal and no details of damage have been received so far, according to the chief district officers of the respective districts.

BIRATNAGAR, Jan 7: A 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Dingge County of Tibet, China, and its tremors were particularly felt in the hilly and mountainous districts of Koshi Province. Although the strong earthquake shook the ground for a few moments, the situation in Koshi districts is normal and no details of damage have been received so far, according to the chief district officers of the respective districts.


The chief district officer of Taplejung, Netra Prasad Sharma, said that the tremors were felt in the district and the work of collecting details has been started by mobilizing the local governments, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force to ascertain the extent of damage in the district.

Similarly, the chief district officer of Sankhuwasabha, Binod Kumar Khadka said that there has been no report of physical or human loss due to the earthquake so far. He said, “Local governments, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are being mobilized to gather necessary information.”


Chief district officer of Solukhumbu, Anoj Kumar Ghimire, said that the tremors of the earthquake were felt and since there is a little more risk towards the base camp of Everest, all the security agencies have been mobilized and the details are being collected.


The chief district officer of Panchthar, Bishnu Koirala, said that the security agencies have been mobilized to determine the human and physical damage caused by the earthquake. Bhojpur District Administration Office Officer Krishna Basnet said that the tremors of the earthquake were felt. He further said that the local governments, police and armed police have been mobilized to find out the damage caused in the district.
