KC to compete in Asian Weightlifting C´ship
KATHMANDU: Nepal´s weightlifter Surya Prakash KC is all set to participate in the 15th Asian Weightlifting Championship during the Youth Asian Games to be held in Qatar from May 26 to June 2. KC will leave for the Gulf nation on Sunday along with his coach Pradip Shrestha, who is the weightlifting chief coach of Western Region. Nepal Weightlifting Association Secretary Tilak Raut will officiate matches in the championship as a referee. Raut, who is leaving for Qatar on Saturday, will also attend the Weightlifting Congress during his trip. During a function to bid farewell to the team on Friday, National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama said it is not just a single player who is attending the games but it is the participation of the entire nation. This is the first time Nepal is competing in the youth category of weighlifting, which has fetched medals in the senior category, according to Secretary Raut.
Nepal wins NSKA Karate
KATHMANDU: Host Nepal lifted the title of Seventh NSKA International Karate Championship on Friday with 45 golds, 34 silvers and 18 bronze medals. India finished a distant second with 3 golds, 14 silvers and 72 bronzes in the four-day tournament held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu.
Among the Nepali participants, players from the organizer Nepal Shotokan Karate Association (NSKA) topped the table with 22 golds, 23 silvers and 14 bronzes while Wadokai (9 golds, 6 silvers and 1 bronze) and Quanmukai (6 golds and 1 silver) finished second and third respectively.
Krisha Shrestha was adjudged the best player in the women´s section while Diwas Shrestha and Suraj Shrestha were jointly declared the best players in the men´s category.
Krisha clinched 5 golds and 1 silver in the tournament. Similarly, Suraj finished the championship with 4 golds and 2 silvers and Diwas secured 4 golds and 1 silver. All the three players are from NSKA.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, NSKA President Bishnu Bahadur Karki and General Secretary Shyam Sherpa gave away the prizes to the winners.
