The animals were spotted near the Tenzing Hillary Airport on Saturday morning, said Dim Dorjee Sherpa, Chairman of Chaurikharka Community Forest Users´ Group. [break]
According to Sherpa, the Chaurkharka folks saw three red pandas running near the airport at around 9:00 am on Saturday.
Red Pandas that are normally found at an altitude of over 3,500 meters might have come down to lower altitudes due to cold, Sherpa said.
The pandas ran to the nearby jungle and surveillance has been increased bearing in mind that people go to the jungle to chase them.
This is the first instance that red pandas have been spotted in Solukhumbu.
