Three people found guilty in the murder of environment conservation activist Dilip

JANAKPURDHAM, Feb 18: Three accused in the murder of a conservation activist Om Prakash Mahato (Dilip) which took place at Aurhi Khola in Mithila Municipality-5 Sripur of Dhanusha at 4 am on January 10, 2020 have been found guilty.

JANAKPURDHAM, Feb 18: Three accused in the murder of a conservation activist Om Prakash Mahato (Dilip) which took place at Aurhi Khola in Mithila Municipality-5 Sripur of Dhanusha at 4 am on January 10, 2020 have been found guilty.


A single bench of Judge Chitra Bahadur Gurung at the District Court, Dhanusa held that Dilip was killed intentionally and pronounced the verdict that three people were guilty in it.


In the judgment pronounced by the court on Wednesday, Bipin Kumar Mahato, Munindra Mahato and Jitendra Kumar Mahato have been found guilty. Bipin and Munindra are considered to be the planners and Jitendra is the mastermind of the incident. Although the court found them guilty, the defendants were not sentenced yet.

On February 24, it will be decided how much punishment they will be given. The court will decide only on February 24 about the life imprisonment for the two people. 


Meanwhile, the other defendants in the incident, Roshan Kumar Yadav, Shatrughan Mahato, Satyanarayan Mahato and Binod Kumar Mahato have been acquitted.


Claiming that Dilip was murdered, the Public Prosecutor's Office filed a case in the District Court, Dhanusha demanding life imprisonment against seven people. Dilip's father Ramjiwan Mahato said, "I will appeal against the verdict of the District Court, Dhanusha in the High Court. The seven people mentioned in the complaint should be prosecuted. I am ready to go to the Supreme Court as well for justice.”


According to the records of Dhanusha District Court, the case related to intentional murder of Dilip was registered on February 6, 2020. According to section 41 of the Civil Code 2074, life imprisonment was demanded for seven people. Six people were immediately arrested in the incident. 


Environmental conservation activist Dilip campaigned against the excesses of the crusher industry in his home village. He was murdered by the local crusher industry operators for the same reason.
