Three parties continue talks

KATHMANDU, Sept 1: Top leaders of three major political parties have continued talks on the issues of reinstating the Constituent Assembly (CA) or holding fresh election on Saturday as well.



A meeting of the top leaders of UCPN ( Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML held at the UML´s central office Balkhu this morning ended on a positive note. [break]



The meeting focused on reinstatement of the CA, fresh election, formation of national consensus government and disputed issues in the constitution-drafting.



Citing the meeting as a ´positive one´, the political leaders have vowed to continue the talks tomorrow also.



Of late, the political parties have intensified parleys citing to narrow down increasing differences among them after the dissolution of the CA and thereby forge a consensus on the disputed issues.



Meanwhile, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has already urged the four major political powers to find a way out to the present political and constitutional crisis in the country as quickly as possible. In response, the political parties have expressed confidence that they would reach to an agreement within mid- September.



Talking to media persons following the meeting, UML general secretary Ishwor Pokhrel said issues of the formation of national consensus government, holding fresh election and the contentious issues in the constitution writing process were discussed at the meeting. "The political parties are making maximum attempts at forging a consensus," he said.



Similarly, NC general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula stressed the need of following the past agreement to ensure fresh consensus and break the protracted political deadlock in the country.



Likewise, UCPN ( Maoist) spokesperson Agni Sapkota said there was no alternative to consensus among the parties to end the present political crisis.
