Three Nepali soldiers injured in Congo ambush

KATHMANDU, July 15 : Three Nepal Army personnel deployed in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), after their patrol team was ambushed by a rebel group there on Sunday.



According to the Nepal Army´s Directorate of Public Relations, the injured were immediately rescued and hospitalized. They were injured while they were on a regular patrol on the way to Kamango, which is 100 km Mavivi, where NA´s Bhairavidal battalion is stationed. [break]



A platoon of 35 NA peacekeepers were ambushed by Allied Democratic Front (ADF), a group which is rebelling against the government there.

Among the injured, one peacekeeper got hit by a bullet on his hand while others got hit on their head and legs. NA Spokesperson General Suresh Sharma said that all three are out of danger. He also informed that a Land Cruiser and a Mine Protective Vehicle (MVP) have been partially damaged in the attack.

Keeping in mind the growing wave of insecurity in the region, the UN peacekeepers have been deployed there since the past few months.
