Three arrested on charge of beating real estate agent to death

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Police have arrested three individuals on the charge of beating a real estate agent to death last week.


According to police, Ramesh Tamang, Prem Tamang, and Kami Lama have been arrested by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division on the charge of beating Chandra Bahadur Yonjan to death.


On October 7, two individuals came to a retail store of Chandra Bahadur Yonjan, 61, at Changunarayan Municipality-8 in Bhaktapur district. The shoppers drank beer at Yonjan’s shop. After a short conversation at the shop, they [shoppers] asked Yonjan about the price of land in the area.

Yonjan, who was also a real estate agent, told Ramesh Tamang, 27, of Dhobi Rural Municipality in Ramechhap, and Prem Tamang, 27 of Sindhupalchowk district, the price of land in the area. The Tamang duo asked Yonjan to show some land plots in the area. They [Tamang duo] said that the commission from the real estate business would be divided between three of them.


Excited, Yonjan took the strangers to a nearby land plot. But, he was beaten to death by those clients almost one kilometer away from his shop. They also looted his gold bracelet and a smartphone. Following the incident, the culprits absconded.


On Monday, a team of police from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division arrested the Tamang duo and Kami Lama, 37, of Sindhupalchowk, on the charge of beating Yonjan to death.


According to police, Yonjan had borrowed money from Lama. As Yonjan was delaying the repayment, Lama asked the Tamang duo to beat Yonjan and get the money back.


According to police, the arrestees are in custody and further investigation into the case is underway.
