He said his party announced a mass movement in favor of civilian supremacy and nationalism and it would unleash a hurricane from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west and sweep away the regressive forces.
The Maoist chairman said he is ready for any kind of sacrifice and would not compromise the country and the people. “We will rather sacrifice ourselves than make compromises against the country and its people,” he said. Dahal was elected to the Constituent Assembly (CA) from Kirtipur.
The Maoists have been protesting what they call the extra-constitutional move by President Ram Baran Yadav to reinstate army chief Rookmangud Katawal, who had been dismissed by the Maoist-led government.
They have been demanding that they be allowed to debate the issue in the legislature-parliament. According to Maoist leaders, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on July 6 agreed to address their demands within a month.
In order to pressure the government into fulfilling their demands, the Maoists have decided to launch protest in parliament and in the streets from Friday. During the agitation, party cadres are scheduled to hold mass meetings, boycott programs attended by the President, prime minister and other ministers and greet them with black flags, among other things.
