He was waving his hands at times and it seemed that he wanted to say something. And at times he wanted to smile. This was how taekwondo ace Deepak Bista spent his entire day during his felicitation in Nepalgunj on Sunday.

Bista´s face gleamed during the public felicitation, reflecting a sign of immense satisfaction. He was greeted by the locals, students and players alike with flowers and bouquets as he moved from the airport at 11 in the morning to various parts of the city. [break]

The public was equally delighted to shake hands with their popular player who was born in the Far Western Region.

The felicitation of the South Asian Games record holder with four consecutive golds was nothing less than a victory rally or an arrival of a famed leader/actor. Residents of Nepalgunj and newcomers in sports were saying that good deeds in any field indeed get rewarded.

“This felicitation is a good answer to those who say that one cannot progress from sports,” said senior football coach Shyam Shrestha.

Students had abandoned their classes and others had left their works to hit the streets in order to welcome Bista. Some were dancing in the streets while others were carrying placards with encouraging words like “Deepak keep moving forward.”

During the felicitation that started from the airport and concluded at the stadium, Bista said the honor has made him realize that he owes something more to the country. He said, “My thirst to wave the national flag with more records is not quenched.” Bista said that he would heave a sigh of relief only after adding a few more records.
