KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Residents of the Valley are enjoying a two-day holiday due to Indra Jatra falling on Sunday, September 27. With schools and colleges closed for two days, what will most of you be doing? In case you are stuck at home or have no plans for this weekend, we have a few suggestions for you.Organize a potluck

A happy stomach is a happy you! So organize a potluck this weekend and make the most of your holidays. Get together with cousins or friends you haven't met for some time now and catch up on the latest happenings in their life. You can either surprise yourselves with the choice of dishes you whip up for the potluck, or plan what each of you will bring in. Put on some music and get ready for some quality time with your favorite people.

Go on a photography tour

If you are a budding photographer, you must head out this weekend as the city will be vibrant with festivities. Grab your camera and head to different spots to try out new photography tricks. Make the most of the colors, the sounds and the feel of the city in celebration, and capture that for posterity. You might just get your best shot yet. Go alone or go with likeminded friends- but head out!

Visit Nepal Art Council

If you aren't ready to take your own photos yet, head straight to Nepal Art Council in Babermahal for some inspiration. Eighty breathtaking photographs of our country and fellow countrymen by 24 different photographers are currently being exhibited there. Titled 'Nepal is Beautiful', you can see photos of beautiful monuments, picturesque landscape, and portraits of Nepalis that together make Nepal a beautiful country. It has been organized by The Country Needs Us, an NGO with the motive of collecting fund to build safe drinking water system, community toilet, and other hygiene-related facilities in places affected by the April 25 earthquake. All the photos being showcased are on sale at Rs 5,000 each. If you can't afford to buy one, you can definitely try convincing someone who can to contribute for a cause.

Get some kitchen time

Break the daal-bhaat monotony and cook something fun. Make your favorite dish from scratch so that you don't need to rush to restaurants when you crave for it the next time. You could even please your parents by making something you think they will love. Learn how many dishes you can make from eggs, how to make pizza at home, healthy and tasty salads that are obviously good for you. The possibilities are endless.

Learn something new

Have you been putting off how to learn to ride a bike? This is a good time as any to master the machine. Ask someone to help you out and put in a few hours of practice in these two days. You can also learn a few Photoshop tricks, learn Origami, or try the DIY projects you have pinned in your Pinterest board. There are numerous websites in the Internet that will also provide you with free foreign language tutorials. While you won't be able to learn much in two days, try learning couple of basic, interesting words.
