KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has said that a law should be put in place that allows voters to cast their ballot from where they live, irrespective of their permanent address.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Thursday, CEC Thapaliya said that a law should be made so that ordinary voters can vote from where they live.

He said that the voters whose names are published in the final voter list should be able to vote under the proportional election system even from the place of their temporary residence. He mentioned that employees and prisoners were allowed to vote proportionally this time and said that in the future, a law should be made so that the common voters too can cast their ballot the same way. He said such an arrangement will increase the voter turnout in elections.

He also said that the Election Commission is preparing the election law on the basis of inclusiveness and gender equality.
