KATHMANDU, Jan 16: A meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has decided to facilitate the management of the bodies of the passengers who died in the Yeti Airlines plane crash on Sunday. This decision was taken by the committee meeting of NDRRMA held at Singha Durbar on Monday.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Nepal Insurance Authority’s Chairman Surya Silwal said that the families  of those killed in the accident will receive insurance as per the existing policies. He said that the authorities concerned also discussed expediting the post-mortem of the dead bodies and are preparing to handover the dead bodies to the relatives soon.

"There will be problems with the insurance of those killed once the victims’ families submit relevant documents. Apart from that, there was a discussion about how to make the process smooth, and how to facilitate the inconsolable relatives, and what kinds of support should be provided by various agencies of the government,” said Silwal. 

“Bodies of foreigners should be collected as well. Arrangements should be made to send the bodies abroad. We discussed facilitating all these,” he added.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and heads of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal and security agencies. Yeti Airlines plane with call sign 9N-ANC flight number 691 ATR 72 which took off from Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:32 am to Pokhara on Sunday morning crashed into the Seti River gorge near the Pokhara Airport at around 11:00 am.
