KATHMANDU, Aug 23: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has claimed that there is no disagreement between the government and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) as has been rumored.

“Rumors have been spread suggesting a disagreement between the government and the NEA. There is nothing like that,” PM Oli said while addressing lawmakers' questions in Thursday’s Parliament meeting, “The government had merely suggested resuming the power supply to industries. It was the authority that reconnected the power line.”

PM Oli stated that it is natural for the government to give instructions for its proper functioning.

PM Oli also said that the government will collect the electricity tariff arrears from industries. He clarified that the government under his leadership only pointed out that cutting off the power supply to industries as a means of collecting arrears was not the correct approach.

The claim that the government has decided to waive the tariff is propaganda, according to PM Oli. He emphasized that the government will collect the arrears but will do so while keeping the industries operational.

The PM further explained that when industries are shut down, the ability to collect arrears is also hindered, and workers lose their jobs. Therefore, the government has chosen to keep the industries running while also collecting the arrears. He added that the closure of industries leads to decreased production and increased business losses.
