Usha Khadgi, the former Miss Nepal and a VJ at Nepal Television sported short hair till she was in grade seven. “It was out of control. So my mom always had my hair cut short with two little pony tails,” she says. During her adolescence, she wanted to “explore her beauty,” and started growing her hair long. The result was voluminous and flowing curls, that everyone seems envious about these days.Even her mother doubts the transition of Khadgi’s unmanageable hair to luscious flowing natural curls. “My mom saw me with the short hair all the time when I was with her,” Khadgi explains.
Unlike many of us, Khadgi manages her charming curls once every fortnight with a visit to the salon for hair treatment. “Hair needs special treatment like any other part of our body. Neglecting your hair is like neglecting yourself. “
Khadgi believes that beautiful and clean hair impresses people and is a confidence booster. This week, she shares some of her daily dose of hair routines with myrepublica.com in Eight Simple Rules.
DOs
1) Changing hairstyles really helps people to have a different feeling about oneself. The alteration boosts up the confidence level. I have experienced it.2) For normal and dry hair, oil massages are mandatory. Once a week, a good hair massage helps blood circulation and relaxation of the brain. The other boon is: it reduces the hair splits too.
3) Go for hair treatment once in a while as it maintains the hair quality. But be careful while selecting beauty salons for the treatment. Always find a recommended and well known hair creams for the treatment.
4) Though it sounds clichéd, shampoos and conditioners are to be chosen according to the hair quality. One should even keep in mind whether the hair has been colored or not.
DON’Ts
1) God has gifted every one of us with the hair that suits our feature. Find the right cut and styling. I personally don’t recommend people to straighten or perm their hair permanently. But if you want, change the hair style temporarily.
2) Maximum use of hair dryer and straightener damages the quality of your hair. Let your hair dry on its own. Hair dryer are only for urgent needs.
3) People with curls like me should avoid combing their hair daily. Regular combing loosens the curls, leaving us with no options of hair styles but to choose artificial methods.
4) Don’t keep on changing your hair colors frequently. Those are chemicals and increase the hair-fall. Give your hair at least six months or a year of break before you change from one color to the other. I do it by keeping track of the dates I color my hair.
