The countries where people aren’t interested in politics

Last Tuesday’s US presidential election sent shockwaves around the world. Indeed, the fallout is still dominating global media coverage while people continue to debate the potential implications of a Trump presidency. According to an OECD report, however, many people couldn’t care less.

Last Tuesday’s US presidential election sent shockwaves around the world. Indeed, the fallout is still dominating global media coverage while people continue to debate the potential implications of a Trump presidency. According to an OECD report, however, many people couldn’t care less. 



Having an interest in political affairs is important for social cohesion with interest fluctuating wildly between countries. Colombia is home to some of the most politically disinterested people in the world, according to the OECD, with 50 percent of respondents there saying they are “not at all interested in politics”. In the United States, only 15 percent of people have no interest in politics while in Germany, only 5 percent have no interest.  This chart shows the percentage of people “not at all interested in politics” in selected countries.
