CHITWAN, Jan 9: The fourth edition of the 'Khichara Festival' is gearing up for another round of fireworks at the under construction Khairhani stadium beginning January 12 with an aim to keep the Tharu culture alive and running.

All the preparations for the festival are near completion, according to the Tharu Welfare Assembly Area no 7, which is organizing the festival under the banner 'National Unity and Diversity Our Honor, Multi-Language Culture Nepal's Identity'.

This time during the Khichara festival, the Tharu culture will be invoked more than ever while training the focus of the new generation into preserving the traditional culture and art, local Tharu campaigner, Basudev Chaudhary shared.

The Festival – to put on display 120 commercial stalls – will be held until January 18. The organizers have called for everyone's support as the festival is being held for preserving the Tharu community's language, culture and identity rather than generating profit.

The festival will offer sumptuous Tharu delicacies as Chichar, Poka, Dhungi, fish and duck dishes along with a daily Tharu dance performances of Jhumara, Bhamta, Damfu, Lathi and Bharara, Festival Main Organizing Committee Coordinator, Narayan Prasad Mahato said. RSS
