The Tharu organization also suspended their 11-day old protest from Tuesday but the East-West highway remained blocked. Tharu supporters, who halted transport in Jhalari and Gulariya, are demanding representation in the negotiating team formed by the government to talk with organizations demanding undivided Far west region.
Prior to the demonstrations, Tharuhat and undivided Far west supporters squared off and there were some minor scuffles. Police however, said there was no major incident.
Meanwhile, agitating groups in Kanchanpur, demanding undivided Far west formed a five-member team to hold talks with the government. Members were Bahadur Thapa, district president of Nepali Congress, Lal Bahadur Khadka, district vice-chairman of CPN-UML, Purna Bahadur Chand of Rastriya Janashakti Party, Kalasha Mahara, district secretary of CPN-ML and Jaya Dev Joshi, central committee member of CPN- United.
