Tharu defeated Amiri Amirshah of Afghanistan in men´s 60 kg sansau in straight sets to make it through to the last eight. If he wins his next match to be played against a Philippines player, he will confirm a bronze medal.[break]
"I was confident of victory and also had strong determination to win the bout anyhow. I was able to show what I had learned during the training," Tharu said, adding, "Thus, I was able to win the bout."
Tharu had knocked out Amirshah in the first round, and in another he had a competitive victory with a score of 3-2. "Tharu played using his brain as per the need of the moment. His opponent too got frightened by Tharu´s personality, which paved an easy way for his victory," Rajkumar Rasaili, another player of the Nepali wushu squad said.
In thaulo, Nirajan Alemagar lost in both the categories he competed. Alemagar competed in men´s kunshu and taulu, and finished second from bottom among 11 participants.
In women´s 52 kg sansau, Elina Chaudhary was defeated by Anruin Thee Bich of Vietnam in straight sets. Chaudhary seemed nervous from the beginning and could not make a single successful attack.
Likewise, Purusottam Rijal failed in men´s 65 kg. Rijal was easily beaten by Hyon Chand Ho of South Korea in straight sets.
