Thai general close to Red Shirts shot

BANGKOK, May 13: An aide says the military strategist of Thailand´s anti-government Red Shirt protesters has been shot in the head.



The aide who answered Khattiya Sawasdiphol´s mobile phone described the injury as "severe." The Associated Press called Khattiya´s phone after several gunshots and explosions were heard in central Bangkok late Thursday. [break]



The aide did not identify himself.



Several Thai media outlets also reported that Khattiya was shot and taken to a hospital.



Khattiya is a renegade army major general whom the government has labeled a "terrorist" and a mastermind behind violence from anti-government protesters during the two-month standoff in the Thai capital.
