Humla and Dolpa districts in Karnali zone have however already received new textbooks as they were airlifted to the districts. [break]
The vehicle, which left Surkhet for Jumla and Mugu on Wednesday, remains stuck along the Jumla-Kalikot road section. According to the chief of the Jumla office of Sajha Prakashan, Satish Majhgaiya, they received information that the vehicle is on the way but have not been able to contact the driver.
He said they have ordered text books worth Rs 3.2 million for Mugu and worth Rs 6 million for Jumla district.
"We are still trying to contact the driver. The books will reach Jumla in a week," said Majhgaiya. Incessant rains followed by heavy snow had blocked and damaged various sections of the highway and this has made transportation difficult, informed Majhgaiya.
Sajha Prakashan has stated that textbooks for Mugu will be transported by mules or porters as the roads remain obstructed.
There are no textbooks left from last year´s stock at the Jumla branch, according to Majhgaiya. Also the curriculum of grade six has been changed this year so old textbooks are useless. "This year, for Jumla district alone, we have ordered 3,500 sets of textbooks," he said.
According to section officer at the District Education Office, Mugu, Surya Bahadur Khatri, students in Mugu and Jumla have been making do with old or outdated textbooks but majority of students go to school without textbooks.
