KATHMANDU, Feb 24: The Judicial Council (JC) headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on Tuesday named 10 judges as chief judges of appellate courts. [break]
Those selected as chief judges include Purushottam Parajuli (Ilam Appellate Court), Gyanendra Bahadur Karki (Pokhara Appellate Court), Jageshwore Subedi (Baglung), Keshariraj Pandit (Hetauda), Bhoop Dhoj Adhikari (Biratnagar), Laxman Mani Risal (Mahendranagar), Aliakbar Mikarani (Rajbiraj), Hari Babu Bhattarai (Tulsipur), Hariram Koirala (Nepalgunj) and Hari Prasad Ghimire (Dhankuta Appellate Court).
“The Judicial Council picked the names on a combined basis of seniority, performance, expertise, honesty, adherence to the code of conduct and fairness,” said Prakash Kumar Dhungana, secretary to the Judicial Council.
Those selected will take up their new responsibilities after the Chief Justice formally appoints them.
Meantime, the Judicial Council has also transferred six appellate court chief judges. The transferred chief judges include Rana Bahadur Bam (transferred to Jumla Appellate Court), Mohan Prakash Sitoula (to Dipayal), Abdesh Kumar Yadav (Surkhet), Girish Chandra Lal (Janakpur), Baidhya Nath Upadhyay (Patan) and Tarka Raj Bhattarai (Butwal). Bam, Sitoula, Yadav and Lal are currently working at the Supreme Court as ad hoc judges.
In yet another decision, the Judicial Council also appointed Gauri Bahadur Karki as the new chairman of the Special Court.
