In a joint press release issued on Tuesday, the joint struggle committee comprising representatives of Nepal Teachers’ Association, All Nepal Teachers’ Organization, the Democratic Teachers’ Union and Madhesi Teachers’ Forum called on the school management committees to close all the schools in the district for an indefinite period to protest against police atrocities on teachers and the irresponsible attitude of the District Education Officer.
The committee also threatened it will prevent the annual examination of the secondary level that begins from March 11 and the SLC examination beginning on March 25 if the teachers’ demands were not addressed.
Teachers here alleged the police of suppression on teachers who had gone to lock the District Education Office on Tuesday. The joint struggle committee also organized a protest rally in Dhangadhi on Tuesday in protest against the police suppression of teachers staging a peaceful sit-in at the District Education Office.
