ROLPA, June 5: A teacher, who has been arrested for beating up fourteen school children leaving them injured, is to face a trial under indecent 'behaviour'.

Female teacher Laxmi Pun of Bhanu Basic School based in Rumtigadhi rural municipality-8 in Ropla reportedly beat up schoolchildren, reasoning the students were late for school. The victims are from grade one to eight. Among the victims, Bhim Kumari Batha, Nirmala Pun, Gauri Gharti, Shanta Nepali and Bimala Roka underwent plaster applications on their broken forearms at the Tulsipur-based Sahara Polyclinic in Dang Sunday.

Following a complaint about the teacher's abuse, a squad from the Holeri Area Police Office arrested her on Monday, and 10 days have been given to the police for further investigations into the case.

According to legal experts, she may face one-year jail sentence or a fine of Rs 10,000 or both if the charge is proved. The District Police Office Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Khadka directed her arrest after the incident that happened on May 26 came to light a few days before.

Doctor Ghanashyam Sharma involved in the treatment of those victimized students said they faced health challenges on joints, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Bhim Kumari said Pun started beating them with a wooden stick indiscriminately, while they were on the morning assembly line, before they could speak anything in defense.

As Holeri Area Police Office Police Inspector Meghnath Chapagain said earlier there was an agreement to settle the case at the local level on the witness of ward chair Bhim Bahadur Gharti. The teacher agreed to bear the treatment cost of the injured.
