JHAPA, July 27: Tea exports through the Mechi Customs Office surged by 32.5 percent in the fiscal year 2024/25, according to official data.
Information Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain said that tea worth Rs 4.21 billion was exported from the customs point during the fiscal year, up from Rs 3.17 billion in the previous year. The total export volume stood at 15,416.756 metric tons.
Meanwhile, cardamom exports declined by 3.2 percent. The value of cardamom exported dropped to Rs 7.67 billion from Rs 7.93 billion in the previous year.

Other major export items included veneer sheets (up 72.3%), iron plates (1.8%), and plywood (7.6%). Molasses exports rose significantly by 247.5 percent. On the other hand, exports of ginger (down 60.7%), broom grass (14.9%), clinker (13%), and churpi (1.5%) recorded declines.
Overall, Mechi Customs facilitated exports worth Rs 25.13 billion during the fiscal year.
