KATHMANDU, April 16: Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed the need for diversification, industrialization, and modernization in the agriculture sector of Nepal.

Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chair Dahal said this while inaugurating the Nepal Coffee Enterprise Promotion Summit e-2019, organised by the Nepal Tea and Coffee Development Board on Monday.

Nepal has the potential of coffee farming in 1.2 million hectares land. Ex-Prime Minister Dahal said there has been a huge demand for coffee in the national and international market but Nepal has a very meager scale of its production. Nepal's coffee has high market value in the international market due to its exquisite quality, he added. "The State should lay its emphasis on spurring investment, research and training in the area of coffee production and expansion of its farming". On the occasion, Minister of State for Agriculture Ram Kumari Chaudhary said the ministry has started imparting training to at least 5000 youths to promote international marketability of coffee.
