According to a press statement issued by the UK embassy in Kathmandu, the new requirement has been made mandatory as per the UK government´s decision in May 2012 to extend this requirement to an additional 67 countries including Nepal, on the basis of World Health Organization figure for high TB incidence.[break]
“With effect from 02 January 1013, TB screening is required for UK visas of longer than six months. Residents in Nepal who would like to apply for settlement, a work visa (under Tiers 1, 2 and 5 of the points-based system) or a student visa of longer than 6 months (including under Tier 4) must be tested before they apply for a visa to show that they are free from TB,” said the statement.
Pre-entry TB Screening is only required for individuals who are travelling to the UK for more than six months. “Anyone who is going to the UK for six months or less, for example on business, family or tourism visitor visas, is not required to undergo a pre-entry TB test,” the statement further said.
The UK Border Agency will only accept TB screening and certificates from two clinics in Nepal operated by the International Organization for Migration in Damak, Jhapa and in Kathmandu. “Applicants who require pre-entry TB screening should contact one of the IOM clinics directly to arrange an appointment. Applicants will be required to pay a fee of US $ 44 to the IOM clinic for the diagnostic tests,” the statement added.
