A meeting of the top leaders from UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) took a decision to this effect.[break]
The four-member taskforce comprises Posta Bahadur Bogati from UCPN (Maoist), Krishna Prasad Sitaula from NC, Ishwor Pokharel from UML and JP Gupta from UMDF.
The taskforce will hold a meeting on Monday to assess the time needed to implement the agreements on peace and constitution drafting, prepare a calendar of events and present it at a meeting of the top leaders on Tuesday before the bill on CA term extension is presented in parliament.
“We will work out details of the peace and constitution drafting process and prepare a calendar of events to present it at the four-party meeting on Tuesday,” UML leader Bogati, who is also the minister for energy, told Republica. After the formulation of the calendar of events, the top leaders will take a formal decision on the duration of the term extension.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court (SC) has passed a verdict not to extend the CA term for more than six months from November 30, the date the current CA term expires.
The NC and UML have also demanded formation of a national consensus government as per the seven-point deal.
Meanwhile, presentation of the bill on CA term extension in parliament has been deferred to Tuesday. The lawmakers were informed about it through a notice pasted at the parliament building.
Parties defer House meeting, Speaker unhappy
Speaker Subas Nembang has expressed his dissatisfaction over major political parties´ decision to defer the Sunday´s parliament meeting, which was scheduled to take a decision on the bill that proposes extension of the Constituent Assembly (CA) term by another six months, for Tuesday.
Nembang expressed his discontent with chief whips of the major political parties during a meeting held at his chamber in Singha Durbar Sunday afternoon. Earlier in the day, top leaders of the major political parties decided to postpone the parliament meeting for Tuesday saying that they needed more time to prepare ground for CA term extension.
"I have serious reservations about the decision of the top leaders to defer today´s (Sunday) House meeting. It shows that the leaders are still not serious about the changed political context," Nembang told the chief whips.
According to the sources privy to the development, leaders from major political parties had suggested to Speaker Nembang to call the next meeting of the House for Wednesday, the day when the CA´s term expires. The Speaker, however, called the meeting for Tuesday ignoring the leaders´ advice.
Sources at parliament secretariat said Nembang had instructed officials at the secretariat to complete all the preparatory works for presenting the bill, which is registered at the parliament, for voting on Sunday and resuming works at the dispute resolution subcommittee under the Constitutional Committee.
