KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The meeting of the three-party taskforce on Wednesday failed to take any decisions on ending the political deadlock and the issues surrounding the Dudejhari firing. The six-member taskforce -- two members each from the UCPN-Maoist, the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML -- held a meeting at Singha Durbar on Wednesday morning. [break]

The taskforce was scheduled to meet again after lunch at 1 p.m., but the meeting did not resume after the Maoist members informed the team that they were unable to attend the meeting due to the party´s internal meetings.

“We will resume the meeting tomorrow,” said NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC, who is also a taskforce member. KC said the taskforce held discussions on the wording of a joint resolution motion in the morning, but failed to reach consensus.

The taskforce comprises Maoist leaders Narayankaji Shrestha and Dev Gurung, NC leaders Arjun Narsingh KC and Krishna Prasad Sitaula and UML leaders Bharat Mohan Adhikari and Bhim Rawal.

A meeting of the top leaders of the three major political parties on Monday had formed the taskforce to make recommendations on resolving the ongoing political deadlock and the issues surrounding the Dudejhari firing in which five persons, including a policeman, were killed.

On Monday, top leaders had given the taskforce just two days to finish its task. However, the taskforce failed to accomplish its task even as the deadline expired on Wednesday. “Let´s see if we can agree tomorrow or the day after tomorrow,” said KC.

As per the agreement reached on Monday, the recommendations made by the taskforce would be discussed at a meeting of the top leaders.
