Tarai Cobra to handover weapons

KATHMANDU, Oct. 8: The Tarai Cobra (Shiva group), an underground outfit active in the Tarai, is to handover its weapons to the Government.



As per the agreement reached in the talks held at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction here on Monday, the group would hand over its weapons and indulge in peaceful activities, according to Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Top Bahadur Rayamajhi.



In return, the Government shall recognize the group as a political force. A six-point agreement was reached between the Government and cobra group in the first phase.



The group has agreed to shun violence and follow the path of peace while the government shall released the arrested leaders and cadres and make arrangement for medical treatment of the injured and the differently able, Minister Rayamajhi said.



Likewise, coordinator of the Cobra Talks Team, Ajaya Kumar Singh said the talks today was very positive, and added that his group would now work in the interest of the country and people through peaceful means.



The second round of talks shall be held as per mutual agreement.
