Talking cinematography with Binod Pradhan

KATHMANDU, Oct 22: “I was passionate about photography since I was a kid. I often carried my camera to school and clicked pictures of different things,” shared Nepali Indian cinematographer Binod Pradhan in an interaction program ‘Painting with Camera’ held at QFX Kumari in Kamal Pokhari on Tuesday.



And this very passion led Pradhan to a career of an acclaimed cinematographer. Having worked in 28 Hindi movies till date, including award-winning works like ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Mission Kashmir’, ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and ‘Rang De Basanti’, his cinematography skills and contribution to the world of cinema is appraised and looked up to by many filmmakers, students and general public today. Short video clips from his films ‘Devdas’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Delhi-6’ among others were screened during the program, after which the audience, that mostly comprised of filmmaking students, actors and film technicians, got to put forward their queries regarding cinematography. Pradhan thoroughly shared his experiences and gave away tips to improvise the visual quality of films.



“I like using my own styles and techniques, and prefer to try fresher visual perspectives on a new project,” Pradhan elaborated.



The interaction program was organized by Ekadeshma 2013 – Festival De’ Contemporary Cinema.
