The Oscar Award Foreign Language Film Selection Committee Nepal chose 'Talakjung vs Tulke' from among three other films namely, 'Sunpani', 'Nishani', and 'Bhimdutta'. The selection committee headed by Director Bimal Poudel viewed all the films before recommending Basnet's film."I hope everyone will like the film and deem it worthy of being at the Oscars. But more than that, my wish is that this will act as an inspiration to other filmmakers to make great films which will not only be chosen for prestigious film festivals but will also bring home the prize," Basnet said.
Actors Khagendra Lamichhane, Dayahang Rai and Reecha Sharma star in Basnet's much acclaimed second film which received good reviews from audience and critics alike. 'Talakjung vs Tulke' deals with civil war and the lives of village folks.
Last year, 'Jhola' was the official selection for Nepal's entry to the Oscars but it didn't make it past the first round. Apart from the 1999 film 'Caravan', not a single film from Nepal has ever made it to the final five in the competition.
The 88th Academy Awards will be held next year on February 28 at Los Angeles, USA.
