Tajikistan qualifies for finals

KATHMANDU, April 6: Tajikistan qualified for the final rounds of AFC U-14 Championship from Group C on Saturday maintaining its unbeaten run while host Nepal thumped Bhutan 13-0 to wrap up its campaign with its first victory in the tournament.



In the match played at the Dasharath Stadium, Tajikistan defeated Afghanistan 2-1 to qualify for the final rounds to be held in 2014 as the group winner. In the last two matches, Tajikistan had defeated Bhutan 15-0 and played a 1-1 draw against Bhutan.[break]



Tajikistan lies at the top of the table with seven points, one point ahead of second-placed Afghanistan. Nepal finished third with four points while Bhutan lies at the bottom without a point. Only the group winner qualifies for the final rounds.



On Saturday, Tajikistan took an early fourth-minute lead through Fuzaylov Ziyovuddin. But Afghanistan equalized in the injury time of first half. Substitute Muhammadiev Aslaiddin restored the lead for Tajikistan six minutes from time in the 60-minute match.



In the second match played at the same venue, Mingma, Prezen and Ashim Rai netted a hat-trick each for Nepal against South Asian neighbor Bhutan. Susan achieved the target twice while Suraj and Kshitiz Raj scored one each for the home team.



Earlier, Nepal was defeated 2-1 by Afghanistan and had played a 1-1 draw against Tajikistan.
