KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The siblings shuttlers of departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) have defended the 39the National Badminton Tournament under the National Sports Council (NSC) Championship on Saturday.
In the women’s singles match played at the Covered Hall in Mahendranagar, Nangsal Devi beat Armed Police Force (APF)’s Shikhsya Shrestha 21-13, 21-14 claiming her third straight title of the Nepali calendar year.
Meanwhile, Ratnajit, who faced a defeat against APF’s Deepesh Dhami in the team event, saw off Dhami in the men’s singles final.

Ratnajit was behind 19-21 in the first set, but did not give Dhami a chance to overturn the 11-0 deficit in the second set. Dhami, then, got six points equalized in the second set. Tamang won the title by a 21-12 set rout in third set. With the win, Tamang clinched his fourth back-to-back titles in Nepali calendar year.
The departmental teams-dominated tournament saw Tamang and Nabin Shrestha win the men’s doubles as well. The TAC pair overcame APF’s Dhami and Bijit Thapa Magar 21-19, 21-14 to win the gold medal.
TAC won the women’s doubles as well which saw Nangsal and Anu Maya Rai defeat APF’s Puja Shrestha and Shikhsya Shrestha 21-19, 21-15.
TAC claimed the mixed doubles as well in which the Tamang siblings beat APF’s Bijit Thapa Magar and Shobha Gauchan 16-21, 21-19, 21-10 to claim the gold medal.
TAC won six golds out of the possible seven in the tournament.
