KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has protested the accommodation levy taken from trekkers in Khumbu region of Solukhumbu district.
An individual trekker is charged Rs 500 as accommodation fee by the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality and local hoteliers. This fee was levied with the consent of the rural municipality and the local hotel association.
Make guides or porters mandatory for trekkers, TAAN requests go...
TAAN expressed its objection to the accommodation fee citing that it would hit the tourism industry in the area as the additional fee was levied without prior information and broader agreement with other stakeholders.
Association president Nawaraj Dahal, through a press statement, urged the federal, provincial and the local governments to scrap this fee.
It is stated in the press release that the trekking agencies and entrepreneurs were concerned with the accommodation fees levied on the trekkers, in addition to the Rs 2,000 that the local level has been taking from individual trekker. RSS
