KATHMANDU, Oct 8: The Swiss government has distributed relief to families affected by the floods and landslides caused by incessant rains on September 27.
According to a press release issued by Helvetas Nepal, the relief efforts were coordinated with donor agencies as there was no special support beyond general assistance. Helvetas Nepal, with financial backing from the Swiss Government Development Cooperation (SDC), provided essential supplies to 500 households in Panauti Municipality, Kavre. These supplies included food items, utensils, and personal hygiene products such as soap, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, as well as clothing and bedding materials.

Similarly, food items, personal hygiene products, first aid kits and 390 tarpaulins were distributed to 95 households in Phidim Municipality, Ilam, Koshi Province. In Phalelung Rural Municipality of the same district, 293 households received food items, 40 households received crockery and cleaning materials, and 586 tarpaulins were distributed.
The total value of the relief materials provided so far is estimated to be around Rs 15 million, the press release stated.
The relief distribution process began immediately after completing the initial damage assessment, in coordination with the local governments of the affected areas.
Helvetas is prioritizing relief efforts in areas severely impacted by landslides and floods within its operational zones.
